Frequently Asked Questions

Who can apply to teach?

We hire professional artists to lead arts classes for seniors in our programs. Artists must be adults (age 18+) and undergo a background check prior to teaching. Prior experience teaching or leading workshops is preferred but not required.

I've never worked with seniors. Can I still apply?

Absolutely! We provide guidance and work closely with selected instructors to ensure their lessons are tailored and accessible to the needs of seniors in our programs.

Is this a paid opportunity? How much?

Yes. Compensation is dependent on your previous experience and the number of classes you are hired to teach. We offer competitive pay with base rates comparable to the hourly living wage determined by City of Austin. Paid instructors must be legally able to work and receive compensation in the United States.

When and where are the classes?

We partner with longterm care facilities in the Austin area. Class times depend on the needs of our partner facilities, but are typically scheduled on weekdays between 1p and 4p or weekends between 10a and noon. We will discuss options depending on your experience and availability.

I'd be happy to volunteer as an instructor. Should I still apply via this form?

Yes. Please make a note in the application that you’d be willing to work as a volunteer.

Will I need to provide supplies?

No. We will work with you to plan lessons and ensure necessary supplies are provided.

Will I need to undergo a background check?

Yes, we require all instructors to undergo a background check before they can begin to teach.
