Frequently Asked Questions

Who can become a partner site?

We partner with longterm senior care and assisted living facilities, including nursing homes, retirement centers, skilled nursing wings, in the Austin area. Eligible care facilities can apply to become a partner via the form above.

How many residents can participate in the classes?

We generally advise limiting classes to 10 to 20 participants at a time to ensure all seniors receive personalized attention. This is flexible, depending on whether your facility can provide staff and/or volunteers to assist.

How many classes can we request? And how often?

The number and frequency of classes we provide to partner facilities depends on facility needs and our available resources. In general, we aim to provide each partner site with a series of weekly classes for a pre-determined period of time (usually 4 to 8 weeks).

What type of space is required for classes?

Logistically, we will need a large space with plenty of tables and chairs to accommodate participants. Some activities may be messy and require cleanup after using materials such as paint, glue, chalk, etc. A space with hard floors (such as tile), rather than carpet, and a nearby sink or handwashing station is ideal.

What happens to the artwork?

Class participants are guided to create individual as well as group pieces of original work. Some pieces are selected to be displayed in our annual Senior Smiles art exhibition and will be returned to the facilities after completion of the exhibit. Pieces that are not selected for the exhibition remain with the facilities and/or residents. We work with our partners to help them develop ideas, spaces, and opportunities to celebrate participant achievements onsite in their facilities.
